Seine Kindheit war vom Tod eines älteren Bruders überschattet, der beim Eislaufen ertrank. Der sechsjährige James versuchte seitdem, dem Bruder, der nie erwachsen wurde, ähnlich zu werden, um seine Mutter zu trösten.
