Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Slim Aarons (Jacket Photograph) (illustrator). First Printing [Stated]. vii, [3], 598 pages. Illustrations. Notes. Bibliography. Index. Signed by the author on the title page. A first volume of a definitive portrait based on the author's unique access to the Reagan family and their friends shares previously undisclosed information about the marriage between Ronald and Nancy, Ronald Reagan's modest childhood in rural Illinois, and Nancy Reagan's carefully cultivated social connections. Bob Colacello (born 1947) is an American writer. Born in Bensonhurst, New York, and raised in Plainview, Long Island, he graduated from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1969, and also has an MFA degree in film criticism from Columbia University Graduate School of the Arts. After his tenure with Interview, Colacello began writing for Vanity Fair magazine, and has been a regular contributor since, writing extended profiles on a wide range of public personalities, including Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles, Balthus, Rudolf Nureyev, Liza Minnelli, Estée Lauder, Doris Duke, and Naomi Campbell. Colacello has also established himself as one of the most prolific biographical writers in the United States. He is the author of Ronnie and Nancy: Their Path to the White House, 1911-1980, about the social and political rise of Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy Reagan. His memoir of working with Andy Warhol in the 1970s and early 1980s, titled Holy Terror: Andy Warhol Close Up, was called the "best-written and the most killingly observed" book on the subject by The New York Times. Derived from a Publishers Weekly article: This joint biography by Vanity Fair contributor Colacello opens not with a power scene in the White House of the new elected President Reagan, but with a glittering dinner at Le Cirque. Colacello's chief interest is family and the Reagans' interactions with the world's elites: the aging Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Frank Sinatra, Malcolm Forbes, and Lee and Walter Annenberg, among many others. Colacello also focuses on the Reagans' relationships with their children, and some of these details are quite interesting. On the political side, Colacello provides a chronicle of events, almost always adopting Nancy Reagan's point of view vis-à-vis her husband's assistants, associates, allies and enemies (the author had Nancy's cooperation).

As new condition dark gray boards/black spine/gold spine lettering contained in an as new condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Other Books by Bob Colacello; Author Dedication; Prologue: Le Cirque: 1981; Acknowledgments; Notes; Bibliography and Index. Illustrated with sections of black-and-white photographic plates. "He was the son of an alcoholic shoe salesman. She was the adopted daughter of a wealthy doctor. Both Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis learned the value of cultivating the right friendships when they were young. Ronnie found his first marriage and political ambitions at irreconcilable odds, but when he met Nancy, one of the most remarkable career-building and romantic partnerships of all time was born. Now, comes the definitve portrait of America's First Couple, in a book that is at once a political saga, a social history, and an unforgettable love story. No one is better equipped to chronicle the Reagans' remarkable journey than noted journalist and longtime Vanity Fair writer Bob Colacello. With unprecedented access to Nancy Reagan, her personal papers, and the couple's closest friends -- including many who have spoken on the record for the first time -- he sheds light on the Reagans' early years and the development of the future president's political ideas. Delving into their Hollywood careers, Ronald Reagan's marriage to actress Jane Wyman, and the Reagans' complciated relationship with their children, Colacello sets the record straight about the most private aspects of their lives. Most of all, he reveals how the Reagans perfected their social skills into an art form, rising through fashionable Los Angeles society to the governor's mansion in Sacramento in 1967 and to the front door of the White House in 1980. Behind them, helping them climb from one peak to the next, was the Group, a clique of wealthy men and glamorous wives that would wield tremendous power throughout Ronald Reagan's political life. Moving, uncompromisingly honest, and rich with details previously hidden from public view, Ronnie And Nancy reveals the dynamics of an extraordinary marriage and reflects upon its amazing impact not only on American society but also on the cause of freedom around the world." -- from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Like its predecessors, 'Once Upon a Time' and 'A Place in the Sun', 'Poolside with Slim Aarons' offers images of jet-setters and the wealthy, of beautiful, glittering people living the glamorous life. Yet this new collection of stunning photographs of the rich and well-connected 'doing attractive things' in their favourite playgrounds has a new twist. The main character is pools and everything that goes with them - magnificent, suntanned bodies, well-oiled skin, bikini-clad women, yachts, summer cocktails, sumptuous buffets, spectacular locations and most of all fun. 'Poolside with Slim Aarons' is not so much a Who's Who of society, aristocracy and celebrity - although C. Z. Guest, Lily Pulitzer, Cheryl Tiegs, Peter Beard and many who have appeared in the previous books are here - as it is about leisure time and how the rich make use of it. This is a more intimate peek into very private lives, to which Slim Aarons was given unprecedented access in the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties. From the Caribbean to Italy and Mexico to Monaco, 'Poolside with Slim Aarons' whisks the reader away to an exclusive club where taste, style, luxury and grandeur prevail.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 3rd Edition. AARONS, Slim [240] pp. Harry N. Abrams, Inc 2005 Third Printing 12 1/4" x 10 3/8" "Slim Aarons is known for his dreamy lifestyle photographs of celebrities and socialites in jaw-dropping locations around the world." --Architectural Digest Since 1940 Slim Aarons has been hard at work, first as a war photographer, then with unprecedented access as a photographer to the rich and famous. In this book, he develops the environmental portrait to the level of art, always showing his subjects in their natural setting, in a circumstance synonymous with their station in life. Aarons documented a particular world that has vanished. A Place in the Sun is that special glimpse of privilege under a bright and beaming sky, whether on sandy shore, snowy slope, or elegant home where cares are few. Through 250 stunning color pictures, Aarons provides a veritable who's who of high society: Aristotle Onassis with his first wife, Tina, and their children C. Z. Guest at her villa in Palm Beach The Aga Khan at his Sardinian resort Truman Capote in Palm Springs And more! From Mustique to Monaco, from Aspen to Gstaad, only Aarons can take us on a journey to the most exclusive playgrounds of the rich, inspiring even the most jaded armchair traveler. Aarons never used a stylist, a makeup artist, or anything but natural light. Since the settings encouraged swimwear, it is astonishing how beautiful these men, women, and children were. There is a shimmering sensuality about this bygone world. Astonishing, too, is the vibrant intensity of the colors.
